IT'S THE NEW YEAR

Well... here were are... just hours away from the year 2009... (at least here in Davao it's just hours away). I usually never stay up... most likely this year will not be an exception as I have day shift in the morning.
To end the year out right and in true midwife fashion... 10 minutes before we walked out the door to head to the beach this morning I got a text then a call, then another text saying my patient was at Mercy... baby out, waiting on the delivery of the placenta... and I would be 'the one'... So.. I quickly threw on scrubs over my bathing suit and headed to the clinic. Yes, my G5 patient delivered at home as her labor was quick and then came via taxi about 30 minutes to the clinic with her placenta still attached to the baby... When I got there it was really barely inside... but I 'caught' it and got her through her immediate postpartum and then said my goodbyes, ran home to change and headed to the beach with the family. Tonight we will have friends, chocolate and maybe a few games to ring in the new year... what could be better?! Maybe another one of my continuities having the first baby of the year would be fun as well... ;) We shall see!
I seem to have very few pictures of myself... so I leave you with a picture from last December on outreach in the mountains with these lovely gals... it was a blast.. but alas my body was very happy to have a bed to sleep on after a week of sleeping on a board!
